Train in Attention
Your attention is the most valuable thing you own.
Attention is the beginning of everything. It is the capacity to know what is actually happening while it is happening. To be present for your own life.
We live inside the most sophisticated attention-extraction system ever built. Every app, every notification, every feed is engineered by teams of behavioural scientists to pull you out of your present experience and keep you scrolling. This isn't an accident or a side effect. It is the business model. When you are not here; when you are somewhere between the past and the future, reactive, distracted, half-present, someone is profiting from that gap.
The cost of this is not just productivity. It is not just stress. The cost is your relationship with your own direct experience. With the people you love. With the quality of your attention, which is the quality of your life.
Jon Kabat-Zinn, who brought mindfulness into Western medicine, put it: "Life is very, very challenging. Waking up is not a luxury. It is an absolute necessity."
He said that before social media, before the algorithm knew you better than you knew yourself, before you started reaching for your phone and before you'd finished your first thought of the morning.
The scattered feeling. The inability to be present for a conversation without your mind drifting. The way you reach for stimulation the moment you feel still. The exhaustion that doesn't go away even after sleep. None of this is a character flaw. It is the predictable result of a nervous system that has been chronically pulled from presence, trained toward vigilance, and flooded with input that never resolves into nourishment.
Sitting still. Paying attention. These are not passive acts. They are, right now, genuinely countercultural ones.
We are not broken. We are human, inside a system designed to exploit us.
1:1 Mindfulness Coaching with Nico
Learning to meditate is simpler than most people think, and harder than most apps will tell you.
I take on a small number of 1:1 clients each season. This is for people who are serious about building a practice — not dabbling, but committing to working with attention over time, with real guidance and real accountability.
In our first session, I listen before I teach. I want to understand where you are coming from: what pulls you out of presence, what you've tried before, what keeps not working, and what you are actually looking for. From there, we build something made for you — not a generic introduction, but a practice shaped to your nervous system, your schedule, your emotional landscape, and your particular way of being in the world.
Bespoke, rigorous, personal.
We work with the breath. With the thinking mind. With the body as a site of knowing. With emotions as information rather than problems. With the quality of your attention in ordinary life — not just in a dedicated practice window.
This is lineage-based teaching held with care. I am certified through the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program under Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield, and currently deepening my work through Working With People, a rigorous synthesis of Western Humanistic Psychology and contemplative transformation. I bring twenty-five years of my own practice to every session; the beautiful parts and the very hard ones alike.
I don't teach from having arrived. I teach from having stayed.
We start where you are, and then we move at the pace your nervous system can actually hold.
Three commitment options:
-
A focused start. You learn the foundational practices, establish a daily habit, and leave with something that is genuinely yours. For people who are ready to begin and want to do it properly — with instruction, accountability, and care.
4 sessions · Weekly · $950
-
Enough time to go through the full territory: breath, body, thinking mind, emotions, and how to bring it all into ordinary life. This is where real shift starts to happen — not because you've read about it, but because you've practised it, week by week, with someone holding you to it.
8 sessions · Weekly · $1,800
-
This is where a practice actually takes root. Twelve weeks is enough time to encounter resistance — the sessions where nothing seems to be working, the weeks you don't want to sit — and come through it. Most people who have tried and drifted need this length. You go in as a beginner and come out as someone with a practice that is actually yours.
12 sessions · Weekly · $2,400
All sessions are 60 minutes via video call. Prices are USD.
Spots are limited. I only hold a small number of clients at a time so that each person receives genuine attention.
The thought wanders. We notice. We return.
That is the whole instruction. Everything else is practice.
If you are ready to begin — or to return — I would love to meet you there.
