Soft Systems World is a contemplative practice ecology founded by Nico Daboul. It sits at the intersection of mindfulness, nervous system care, and honest inquiry — for individuals navigating transition, overwhelm, or the ongoing work of becoming more fully themselves, and for leaders who want to develop the human capacities that make everything else possible. The name comes from a simple premise: the conditions we design determine everything. Change the conditions, change what's possible. Softness here is not the absence of strength, it is what strength looks like when it has stopped performing.

I work with people who want to develop a genuine relationship with their own attention — and with leaders who want to build the human capacity to lead well in complex times. My work sits at the intersection of contemplative practice, nervous system care, and honest inquiry. I don't fix people. I help them find what's already there.

Good. That means your mind is working exactly as it should. Meditation is not about stopping thoughts — it's about noticing when you've been carried away by them, and returning. That moment of return is the practice. You've been doing it your whole life. We're just making it more deliberate.

Human capacity coaching is the development of the internal qualities that make everything else possible: the ability to pay attention, to regulate under pressure, to meet other people with genuine presence, and to respond to complexity rather than react to it. Most leadership development works at the level of behaviour — new skills, new frameworks, new habits. Human capacity coaching works at the level beneath that. It changes how you show up, not just what you do.

Therapy typically works with the past — patterns, wounds, diagnoses, and the psychological history that shapes how we move through the world. Coaching works with the present and future: what you're building, what's getting in the way, and how to develop the capacities you need to move forward. My work draws on both traditions. It is contemplative, body-based, and inquiry-led, but it is not therapy. If deeper therapeutic work is indicated, I will say so.

No. You need to be willing to slow down and tell the truth. Everything else we build together.

We begin by arriving — grounding, settling, noticing what you're carrying into the room. From there, we follow what's alive. Sometimes that's a specific challenge you're navigating. Sometimes it's something subtler: a pattern, a question, a quality of attention you want to develop. Sessions include honest conversation, guided inquiry, and sometimes a practice to take into your week. Nothing is forced. The pace is yours.

Nico Daboul is a mindfulness teacher, holistic counsellor in training, and human capacity coach based in Beirut, with roots in Sydney and New York. She has spent twenty-five years in contemplative practice across multiple traditions, and brings to her work a rare combination: a decade as a global executive design leader, rigorous teacher training through the programs of Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield, and current training as a Holistic Counsellor through Working With People in the lineage of Rafia Morgan. She also brings twenty-one years of her own deep inquiry work. She doesn't teach from having arrived somewhere. She teaches from having stayed with the practice; and from knowing, from evidence, that it changes things.

Most leadership coaching works at the behavioural layer: here are the gaps the data identified, here are three new behaviours to practise, here is how we'll track progress in ninety days. That layer matters. But it cannot touch the root. What the 360 review, the feedback process, the team dynamics are often actually pointing at is not a missing skill — it's a missing depth. A way of attending to yourself and others that no competency framework can install. That's what this work addresses.

For individuals: people navigating change, overwhelm, transition, or the quiet sense that something needs to shift. You don't need to be in crisis. You need to be willing to go a little deeper than you've gone before.
For leaders: people who are highly capable and increasingly aware that capability alone isn't enough. Who sense that the quality of their presence — in meetings, in difficult conversations, under pressure — is shaping outcomes they can't fix with another framework. Who are ready to do the interior work that organizational life keeps trying to skip.

I'm based in Beirut, with roots in Sydney and New York. All sessions are held by video call, which means I work with people everywhere. Time zone permitting, geography is not a barrier.
-
If you're asking that question, you probably are. Readiness isn't the absence of doubt — it's the willingness to begin anyway. The only real prerequisite is that you're genuinely curious about what's possible, and willing to show up consistently for the work.
-
Not a performance of calm. Not a set of techniques to deploy.
For individuals: people often notice more space between stimulus and response. Less reactivity. A clearer relationship with their own feelings, needs, and inner life. The capacity to be with difficulty without being destroyed by it. A sense of coming home to themselves — often for the first time in a long time.
For leaders: the shifts tend to show up in rooms. In how they listen. In the quality of contact they create with their teams. In the capacity to stay present under pressure rather than contracting into a role. People around them notice before they do.
These shifts are quiet. They are also the ones that last.
